Are you divorced or divorcing and think you may want to someday remarry in the Church?
For those who are divorced and may wish to remarry someday, the Church has a process to determine if the person is free to marry in the Church. Some years ago, Pope Francis streamlined the process to petition the Church for a declaration of nullity and eliminated the mandatory fee to make the process shorter and more accessible.
If a person is able to demonstrate through the process that their prior marital bond was invalid for some
reason consistent with Church teachings, then he or she is free to marry in the Catholic Church!
Please know that all authorized personnel involved in the process, including the advocate, are required to
keep all information strictly confidential. Only the parties themselves have a right to the information
concerning their marriage.
Even though the process is a legal proceeding involving a judge, the gathering of evidence is done privately, not in a courtroom, and the parties are not required to face each other in the Tribunal.
