He who lives by God's merciful love
is ready to respond to the Lord's call.
"Go, first be reconciled to your brother." (Matt. 5:24).
It is called the Sacrament of Reconciliation, because it imparts to the sinner the love of God who reconciles: "Be reconciled to God" (2 Cor 5:20). Through penance, the faithful receive pardon through God’s mercy for the sins they have committed. At the same time, they are reconciled with the Church community. The confession or disclosure of sins frees us and facilitates our reconciliation with others.
